Comparison of Laser Processes for Microvia Formation in RCF, FR-4 and 'Thermount'
(April 2009 PC Fab): Co-authored by Dr. Bill Varnell, Corporate Director of R&D, Polyclad Laminates (Franklin, NH); Siemens Dematic Electronic Assembly Systems (Norcross, GA), and; Dynamic Details, Inc. (Anaheim, CA). The study demonstrates how high energy green lasers are faster than other lasers for microvia formation in an actual production environment. The study investigates cost, throughput and reliability of microvias in three materials - resin coated foil (RCF), FR-4 and 'Thermount'- as processed by four different types of laser drills.
Testing Thermal Stability of Bromine-free Laminating Materials
(February/March 2009 issue of Electronic Manufacturing International) Authored by Polyclad Laminates Research Engineer Rob Demaree, the brief article summarizes suitable alternatives to brominated FR-4 epoxy materials.
Thermal Stability of Halogen-free Laminating Materials
(October 2009, Circuitree). Authored by Polyclad Laminates Research Engineer, Rob Demaree, the article details how halogen-free laminates can be a suitable alternative to brominated FR-4 epoxy materials. The article is largely based on a paper presented last April at IPC Printed Circuits Expo 2009, Anaheim, CA.
