PCL-FR-377 laminates and PCL-FRP-377 prepregs manufactured with Polyclad's TURBO technology. The TURBO 377 system offers the opportunity to upgrade UL soldering limit and maximum continuous operating temperature recognition perimeters from Polyclad's generic FR-4 listing. 377 is recognized by UL as a non-FR-4 system. TURBO 377 laminate and prepreg products are manufactured using the same epoxy resins as the TURBO 370 system. TURBO curing technology results in improved thermal stability and dramatically shorter cure times reducing lamination press cycle times by 30% or more. This combination provides not only improved performance but retains FR-4 processability, with mechanical, chemical and moisture resistance and, laser fluorescing and UV blocking properties that equal or exceed the performance of any other FR-4 material available.
LAMINATE AVAILABLITY
TURBO PCL-FR-377 laminates are available in standard thicknesses from .0015 inches (.038 mm) to .125 inches (3.2 mm). Single ply laminates are available in all increments of .00025 inches (.00635 mm) from .0015 inches (.038 mm) to .008 inches (.203 mm) and multiple ply laminates are available from .003 inches (.076 mm) to .125 inches (3.2 mm). Standard copper claddings are available from 3/8 ounce (12 micron) to 3 ounce (103 microns). Polyclad's patented DSTFoil® copper foil cladding is standard but traditional copper foil and double treat clad products are available. Other thicknesses and copper claddings can be custom made to meet specific performance requirements.
PREPREG AVAILABILITY TURBO PCL-FRP-377 prepregs are available in standard E-glass styles 106, 1080, 2313, 2116, 2165, 2157 and 7628 with base yields from .0015 inches (.038 mm) to .008 inches (.203 mm) in all increments of .00025 inches (.00635 mm) and .0090 inches (.229 mm). When fully cured TURBO 377 prepreg has the same performance attributes as TURBO 377 laminate. Other glass styles or custom performance products can be made to meet special performance requirements.
PROCESSING AND STORAGE TURBO 377 laminates and prepregs are compatible with standard FR-4 process techniques, although shorter multilayer lamination press cycles can be used. General process recommendation technical bulletins are available from Polyclad. For specific processing guidelines please contact Polyclad Technical Services.
Storage of TURBO 377 laminates and prepregs is the same as for all FR-4 materials. Prepregs should be stored at 65±3° F (18±2°C) and 30-50% relative humidity. Temperatures and humidity above recommended conditions should be avoided during shipment and transport of prepreg materials. Prepregs stored below recommended temperatures should be allowed to equilibrate to the above specified conditions for eight hours prior to use. More detailed storage recommendation technical bulletins are available from Polyclad.
APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS
Polyclad's UL file number is E45456. TURBO PCL-FR-377 laminate and TURBO PCL-FRP-377 prepreg are listed under these designations as a non-FR-4 grade. TURBO 377 laminates and prepregs and PWBs constructed from them are capable of achieving a UL 94-V0 flammability rating and a UL maximum continuous operating temperature of 150°C. In most cases CCIL testing will be required to achieve the upgraded UL soldering limit and 150°C maximum continuous operating temperature recognition associated with the 377 FR-4 grade. Certain other more specific parts of Polyclad's UL listing may be applicable in some cases. TURBO 377 laminates and prepregs can be certified to IPC-4101, Specification for Base Materials for Rigid and Multilayer Printed Boards, Specification Sheet IPC-4101/21 or /24, (or /26 may require additional testing). Other industry or customer specific specifications, recognitions or designations may be applicable or certifiable to in certain cases. If you need additional information or have questions please contact Polyclad Technical Services.
