TURBO PCL-FR-371 laminates and PCL-FRP-371 prepregs are the new standard in Laser drillable high performance E-glass reinforced FR-4. Utilizing TURBO technology, the 175°C glass transition temperature (Tg) and 350°C degradation temperature make it the choice for the most demanding High Density Interconnect (HDI), build up multilayer printed wiring board (PWB) applications requiring Laser drilled HDI layers. The application of new glass cloth weaving technology to the industry leading Polyclad TURBO 370 system provides a dramatic improvement in Laser drilling performance along with maximum reliability. TURBO technology also results in faster curing, allowing lamination press cycle time reductions of 30% or more. This combination provides not only improved performance but retains FR-4 processability, with mechanical, chemical and moisture resistance and, laser fluorescing and UV blocking properties that equal or exceed the performance of any other FR-4 material available.
PREPREG AVAILABILITY
TURBO PCL-FRP-371 prepregs are available in modified E-glass styles 106, 1080, 2313, and 2116 with base yields from .002 inches (.051 mm) to .00525inches (.133 mm) in increments of .0005 inches (.0127 mm) and some .00025 inches (.00635 mm) increments. When fully cured PCL-FRP-371 prepreg has the same performance attributes as PCL-FR-371 laminate. Other glass styles or custom performance products may be made to meet special performance requirements.
LAMINATE AVAILABLITY
TURBO PCL-FR-371 laminates are available in standard thicknesses from .002 inches (.051 mm) to .00525 inches (.133 mm). Single ply laminates are available in most thickness increments of .00025 inches (.00635 mm) from .002 inches (.051 mm) to .00525 inches (.133 mm) and multiple ply laminates are available in .004 inches (.1016 mm) and .0045 inches (.1143 mm). Standard copper claddings are available from 3/8 ounce (12 micron) to 3 ounce (103 microns). Polyclad's patented DSTFoilÒ copper foil cladding is standard but traditional copper foil and double treat clad products are available. Other thicknesses and copper claddings may be custom made to meet specific performance requirements.
PROCESSING AND STORAGE
TURBO 371 laminates and prepregs are compatible with standard FR-4 process techniques, although shorter multilayer lamination press cycles can be used. General process recommendation technical bulletins are available from Polyclad. For specific processing guidelines please contact Polyclad Technical Services.
Storage of PCL-FR-371 laminates and prepregs is the same as for all FR-4 materials. Prepregs should be stored at 65±3° F (18±2°C) and 30-50% relative humidity. Temperatures and humidity above recommended conditions should be avoided during shipment and transport of prepreg materials. Prepregs stored below recommended temperatures should be allowed to equilibrate to the above specified conditions for eight hours prior to use. More detailed storage recommendation technical bulletins are available from Polyclad.
APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS
Polyclad's UL file number is E45456. TURBO PCL-FR-371 laminate is UL listed under the generic FR-4 designation PCL-FR- (a)(a) and TURBO PCL-FRP-371 prepreg is listed under the generic designation PCL-FRP- (a)(a). TURBO 371 laminates and prepregs and PWBs constructed from them are all capable of achieving a UL 94-V0 flammability rating and the highest UL maximum continuous operating temperature for FR-4 grades of 130°C, and are interchangeable from a UL standpoint with all Polyclad FR-4 grades under the generic listing. Certain other more specific parts of Polyclad's UL listing may be applicable in specific cases. TURBO 371 Laminates and prepregs can be certified to IPC-4101A, Specification for Base Materials for Rigid and Multilayer Printed Boards, Specification Sheets IPC-4101A/21 and /24. Other industry or customer specific specifications, recognitions or designations may be applicable or certifiable to in certain cases. If you need additional information or have questions please contact Polyclad Technical Services.
