PCL-CF-PCC is a thermosetting polyphenylene ether resin coated foil designed for microvia applications. PCC has an inherently lower dielectric constant (Dk) and dissipation factor (Df), and high glass transition temperature (Tg) making it the ultimate performance choice for microvia structures requiring maximum electrical and thermal performance. It consists of electro-deposited copper foil coated with a single layer of non-reinforced resin manufactured to precise rheological properties, to provide optimal flow and fill during the lamination process. The polyphenylene ether resin is based on the same resin system used in Polyclad's PCL-LD-621 laminates and PCL-LDP-621 prepregs. Because the resin is based on 621, processability and performance are consistent with 621 and compatible other Polyclad resin systems. PCC is also UV blocking and fluorescing.
AVAILABLITY
PCL-CF-PCC resin coated foils can be made available with a variety of copper foil weights and thicknesses. 12 micron (3/8 ounce) is the standard copper thickness. High temperature elongation (HTE), low profile copper foils are standard. PCL-CF-PCC with other copper foil types and thicknesses can be custom made to meet specific requirements.
Resin layer thicknesses from 50 microns (.002 inches) to 70 microns (.0027 inches) are available. The standard thickness tolerance of the resin layer is ± 7 microns (.0003 inches).
PROCESSING AND STORAGE
Storage of PCL-CF-PCC resin coated foils is the same as for prepregs. They should be stored at 68±3° F (18±2°C) and 30-50% relative humidity. Resin coated foils stored below recommended temperatures should be allowed to equilibrate to the above specified conditions for eight hours prior to use. More detailed storage recommendation technical bulletins are available from Polyclad.
APPLICABLE SPECIFICATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS
Polyclad's UL file number is E45456. PCL-CF-PCC is currently being tested by UL to establish temperature and flammability ratings. It is Polyclad's expectation that PCL-CF-PCC resin coated foil and PWBs constructed using it will be capable of achieving a UL 94-V0 flammability rating and a maximum continuous operating temperature of 130°C. PCL-CF-PCC can be certified to IPC/JPCA-4104, Specification for High Density Interconnect (HDI) and Microvia Materials, specification sheet IPC/JPCA-4104/13, Designation CI C 1 N 12 CF 1 Polyphenylene Ether Coated Foil. Other industry or customer specific specifications, recognitions or designations may be applicable or certifiable to in certain cases.
